RAIPUR: Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd), executive director of AIIMS Raipur, was conferred the Param Vishisht Seva Medal ( PVSM) by President Droupadi Murmu on Friday at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The prestigious award recognizes his distinguished service and exceptional achievements in the Armed Forces.
Lt Gen Jindal, who served the
Indian Army for nearly four decades, is one of the country's most decorated military doctors. As the Commandant of Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in Delhi from November 2021, he successfully restarted liver, heart, and pediatric heart valve transplant programs.
Under his leadership, the hospital also developed significant infrastructure for the welfare of military personnel, including an Early Intervention Centre for Special Children and a new Accident and Emergency Centre. His efforts earned the hospital the Chief of Army Staff Unit Appreciation in 2023.
Previously, as Major General and Commandant of Command Hospital (Northern Command) in Udhampur, Lt Gen Jindal ensured quality healthcare for COVID-19 patients and continued to provide critical care for operational casualties in Jammu & Kashmir during the pandemic.
His exemplary service led to the hospital receiving the Army Commanders Unit Appreciation on Army Day 2021.
For his distinguished service, he was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal by then-President Ram Nath Kovind in 2021.
As a young Captain, Lt Gen Jindal demonstrated remarkable courage and professionalism during an attack by Pakistan on Saltoro Ridge in 1987 while serving on the Siachen Glacier. He became the first doctor to be awarded the Yudh Seva Medal for distinguished service in war on Republic Day 1989.
After retiring from the Army, Lt Gen Jindal took over as the executive director of AIIMS Raipur February 19 this year.
